Cambridge Collections Online
A collection of books with long scholarly essays, particularly on literature. There are companions to Nabokov, Poe, Gothic Fiction, and many other topics which would be useful for this class.

Databases for Articles and Other Materials

Academic Search Premier is the world's largest database of full text information. It covers over 6,000 magazines, newspapers, and scholarly journals in all areas of study. Over 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. This database should always be your first stop if you need to find an article.  Use the dropdown menu with the database name to search other databases in this database family including:
  *  MLA (Modern Language Association) Bibliography -  for articles in Literature and Language
  *  American:  History and Life - for articles on American history

InfoTrac Onefile is another large database for articles of all types.  From this database family, you can find other databases including:
  *  Expanded Academic ASAP -  for more scholarly and specialized journals.
  * 
Scribner Writers Series - Long (15-20 page) encyclopedia-like articles on major writers. A good source for overviews of the author's works, detailed discussion of major works, and bibliography to help you get started on a project.
  *  Literature Resource Center -  for literary research including biographical articles, full text literary criticism, current journal articles and links to valuable web sites.  Includes many important reference sources like the Dictionary of Literary Biography and Contemporary Authors.
  *  History Resource Center: U.S.
- For journal articles and reference sources in U.S. history, including Encyclopedia of American Cultural and Intellectual History, History in Dispute, Dictionary of American Biography, and Civil Rights the United States.

JSTOR - for scholarly material in all disciplines, but most articles are at least 3 years old.

Web Resources

William Faulkner on the Web
From the University of Mississippi, provides an introduction to Yoknapatawpha County, biographical information, entries on individual works and links to additional information about Faulkner's works.

Documenting the American South
From UNC-Chapel Hill, this site provides the text of important works in southern literature, including diaries, slave narratives, letters and other materials.
